Michael Meech

Whimsical to macabre, are all descriptions that have been used for my work. I started modelling in porcelain around 25 years ago after being introduced to the medium by another local potter. Fascinated by both the challenge of porcelain, and the beauty of its inherent glow, my models have continued to be made from this wonderful material. Fired in an electric kiln, and finished with an ‘ageing’ slip, to enhance the detail in each piece.  I would like to say my inspiration comes from the complex natural world around us, and certainly that is true to some degree. However, mostly the story and vision of each piece comes from within. Perhaps even more complex and unexplainable than the natural world!

I also dabble a little in thrown and altered porcelain, Husky hair, ferric and naked raku, all of which, I am still striving for that perfect item.
