Zyg Kruk
Following a career as an academic, I was drawn to sculpting and drawing while Sue (my wife) prepared a portfolio for a degree in fine art.
I learned ceramics at evening classes and on a 1 day/ week City & Guilds design and ceramics course, and by attending courses at West Dean College and elsewhere with tutors whose work I have found inspiring.
I build and sculpt animals, from photographs, imagination or based on the works of Ian Gregory, Colin Kelam or other artists. I make and use paper clay as it is a strong material which allows me to build by addition and/or carving. Most of my work is low temperature fired (earthenware and raku) using simple matt or glossy glazes
Since 2012 I have been on several portrait sculpting courses, and this is my main interest at present. Again, I seek out teachers whose work I like, and attend their courses.
In the autumn and winter I run classes in building animals, and some portrait sculpting. I am based on Hayling Island where I have my studio at home
