Linda Chew

I have been making ceramics for over 45 years from my studio at home in Winchester, Hampshire.
After studying ceramic sculpture at Cheltenham College of Art with James Campbell as my inspirational teacher, I went on to work in London for the sculptors Beth and Maurice Blik. This placement led me to decide to go into teaching , gaining my qualifications at The Institute of Education , London University ,where I was fortunate to have the potter William Newland as my tutor, leading on to many happy years teaching children in Hampshire schools.

A family tradition of mending, sewing , exploring fabrics , patterns and textures alongside the love of spending time in the garden and allotment has been a constant source of inspiration over the years.

A variety of vessels, dishes and bowls are thrown on the wheel or pieced together with parts constructed from thin slabs of porcelain and stoneware clays. Using a variety of resist techniques and bisque plates that I have made, surface patterns and textures are added and impressed into the forms, enhanced with oxides and glazes in a palette of mainly blues and green

All work is fired in a Northern Kilns top loader to 1250 degrees

I am a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association.
