Sheena Bond

Graduating from UCA Farnham in 2013, Sheena was invited to join the Society of Designer Craftsmen, and exhibit at the Mall Galleries in London where she was awarded a Distinction for her graduation piece ‘Quantitative Easing’.

Over the last nine years, she has shared Studio Space at The Sorting Office Studios in Hampshire, and at 318 Ceramics in Surrey. Her ceramics career developed and now her passion for exploration, experimentation and seeking out new challenges, is shared with others as a tutor.

Sheena enjoys wheel throwing, although mould making and slip casting, and some press moulding creep in from time to time.

She has her own studio in Hampshire, but continues to teach part time in Surrey.

She works in a range of materials, from porcelain to crank and stoneware clays.

The Haar series of bowls submitted for Bishops Kitchen 2022, is a series inspired by the sea and coastal conditions.  They are thrown using heavily grogged clays, which creates texture and colour variations beneath the glazes, much like the constant changes of sea state.

The bowls are glazed to reflect the mood of the sea; swirling waters, misty visibility and sometimes the fear experienced when sailing.  Being married to a keen sailor, there have been plenty of moments emotionally inspired which inform her work!
