“Metamorphosis”

Price £90

35 cm High, 25 cm Wide

Hand built in stoneware. Oxides are applied before final firing.

I wanted to explore the idea of change during the process of making. To build in one direction and then alter course. I achieved what I wanted to achieve but to most people there will be no metamorphosis since it started and finished as a vessel. It’s title is deliberately provocative.

This is the second of pieces in a series entitled empty vessel. The vessel has been used as a metaphor for many things. You may choose to consider possible meanings and interpretations or simple see it as an empty pot.

I have always made things and been interested in how things are made. I have been fascinated exploring different materials and learnt that I am happiest working with a malleable substance in three dimensions. It was therefore inevitable that I would end up to my armpits in mud.

I started by attending evening classes and in the search for knowledge and a challenge I completed a degree in Ceramics and 3-Dimensional Design at UCA Farnham in 2015. I now know how much more there is to learn.

My main body of work comprises hand built large sculptures and statement pieces for an interior or garden setting. Each piece usually develops from an idea or particular subject that I want to explore, and may become part of a series as my ideas evolve.

Alongside this work I cannot resist making other things and trying new ideas. My website includes examples of garden water bowls, platters and garden installations.
